Closing the Commons

CLOSING the COMMONS
COOLERS – 
  • Drain 
DISHES /sink supplies: all counter and appliance tops empty_
  1. All dishes should be placed in cabinets – 
  2. All soaps etc.(liquid and dry) placed under sink in closed containers
  3. All sponges etc. in top drawer to right of sink, and/or placed in closed plastic container under the sink.
  4. Dish drainers cleaned, dried and placed under sink
 FLOOR MATS AND FLOOR  
  • Clean 
FOOD – leave nothing in Commons.   
  • Check with other member/residents and Roelofs. Possibly canned or unopened items can be used at Blue Hill Dinner program.   If no one wants what is left – take it to the dump.
GENERATOR AND DR MOWER STORAGE – 
  •  Last person to use these - Check with Dick to hear if he (or anyone else) is going to be using them in near future.  If not, drain the gas out of them.
HAMMOCK – 
  • The person who put it up or the last person to used it.  Be sure it is dry and then put it in the bed box by Commons door.
HOSES 
  • Potable one located on Roelofs outside faucetDrain and hang in DBA shed. 
MATTRESSES & PILLOWS:                                           
  • Place bed-box mats in bed boxes (probably both large bed mats in Box by 4 windows). Large pillows can also fit in bed boxes and most small pillows fit into the trunk in loft bedroom. Be sure bed boxes are tightly closed.
OUT-DOOR FURNITURE:  TABLES, BENCHES, CHAIRS, GRILL
  • Please clean and dry and store in Commons   
PAPER PRODUCTS:  
  • Tissues, toilet paper, napkins paper towels etc.Cabinets are clearly marked for where to store these items.  Leave none sitting out for insects or rodents to chew on or scatter about.  
PRIVY  - Empty trash, sweep & put plastic container with supplies in cabinet in Commons.  
  • Make sure cover is closed.
PROPANE ITEMS   Stove, Lights, Refrigerator
Lanterns
  • Be sure all lanterns are in off position – to eliminate gas leakage when gas turned on
Stove
    1. ​​Check to be sure the drip-pan under the burners is clean and dry.
    2. Be sure that all burners are in off position. (to be sure there is no gas leakage when the outside tank is turned on.
    3. Place a Bounce sheet in the oven and in the broiler.
    4. Make sure the gas is turned off at the outdoor tank.  ​
Refrigerator
           1.  Turn the on/off button, at bottom front of refrigerator, to off position.
​          2.  Turn off the valve that is located behind the cabinet next to the fridge.
          3.  Defrost the refrigerator at least 4 to 5  hours before ready to wipe it dry.to allow melting time/  dry       
          4.  Unscrew light bulb 
          5.  PROP BOTH DOORS slightly AJAR– or it will become moldy
SHOWER HOUSE
  1. People who use the shower, please check to see if you are the last folks who will be using it. If so: 
  2. Remove the black tub, cover, and hoses and put in shed. 
  3. Put the (drained) Zodie hot water heater in shed.
  4. Drain any shower bags (a diluted Clorox rinse is a good idea). Get as much water out of them as possible and hang inside where they can continue to drain if necessary.
TRASH DISPOSAL
  1. All inside cans should be empty and clean, including bottles and cans containers (Any food or liquid remnants will attract “critters”)
  2. All outdoor trash cans should be empty (free of garbage remnants) and trash taken to dump.
WATER SYSTEM:  -
  1. Indoor and Well1.  Drain water out of hose between the well and the building (start with hose coming down from wall and lift/position in such  a   way that water drains back into well)
  2.  Drain tank in the loft. (before valves are closed) Wipe up leaks.    
  3.  Make sure all water has been drained out of the pipe coming into the sink. 
  4. Valves under sink: (1) a valve for draining water from the sink. faucet.  2. a drain for the hot water faucet:  DRAIN BOTH 
  5. After all the water is out of the system place a bucket under the drain.  
WINDOW VENTS:
  • ( There are five)Be sure all four covers on the  Rt.172 side are tightly latched. If the one on front wall has been opened, be sure the cover has been replaced with wing nuts.
WOOD BOX – Replace what you have used for next guests 
 WOOD STOVE  Before you leave, be sure the stove is cold, and be sure to close the door vent.
  • Mice have nested there in the past.
